The Southlake Carroll Color Guard has two performance seasons. In the fall, the Color Guard performs with the Carroll Dragon marching band, playing a significant role in the band's competition marching show. We provide visual interest to the show and often serve to illustrate and act out the "story" told by the music.
During the spring semester we have Winter Guard. This season runs from January through April, and consists of indoor competitions via Winter Guard International (WGI) and the North Texas Colorguard Association (NTCA).
Costumes are custom-designed each season and complement the music of the halftime show or indoor competition. Color Guard performances integrate flags, rifles, sabers, and other props into professionally choreographed routines incorporating complex dance and gymnastics movements. Color Guard auditions are open to Carroll students in 9th-12th grades.
For younger students, the Carroll Color Guard established the Carroll Color Guard Cadets in 2012. The Cadets are a competitive ensemble for students in 6th-8th grades, offering younger students training in flag handling, dance/movement, choreography, and other skills essential for Color Guard members at the high school level.
Auditions for Color Guard and Cadets take place in late spring, and Winter Guard auditions happen in the late fall. For more information contact James Thomas, Color Guard Director.
