Dragon Band Glossary

Accessories - optional items for students. This could include replacing required items (i.e. ball cap) or purchasing duplicate items (i.e. extra practice shirts).

 

Apollo - the visor-like hat worn with the Traditional Uniform and some years with the Competition Uniform. It’s a base used to attach different wraps and plumes (feathers).

 

Band Store - online store for purchasing swag/spirit items for students, family and friends

 

Band Jersey - green football-jersey-like shirt with the graduation year on the back

 

Battery - percussionists who march on the field (snare, bass and tenor drums)

 

Color Guard - students who perform with flags, sabres, rifles and other props to enhance our marching show.

 

Competition Uniform - uniform worn to competitions that fits with that year’s show theme

 

Concert Uniform - tuxedo or black dress loaned to students from the district for band concerts. Students wearing a tuxedo purchase the white shirt and bow tie from the Boosters.

 

Drum Majors - student conductors, typically we have five

 

Front Ensemble - percussionists who perform at the edge of the field and do not march (marimbas, vibraphones, keyboards, etc.)

 

Gauntlet - part of the traditional uniform. A long cuff that is worn around the wrists (at the bottom of uniform sleeves)

 

Indoor Percussion - a spring competitive activity open to percussionists and other band students, competing in NTCA and WGI events.

 

Practice Shirt - green or white t-shirt that says “Dragon Band”

 

Renegades - the brand of marching shoes worn with the Traditional or Competition Uniform

 

Section Leader - the student leader for your child’s instrument

 

Section Shirt - a shirt ordered by you child’s section leader (i.e. flutes) and typically worn to Thursday rehearsals

 

Show Shirt - shirt worn by students under their uniform on competition days. This shirt has the show name/theme on it. Each year a family version of this shirt is also available for purchase.

 

Summer Uniform - what students wear to football games when it’s too hot for the Traditional Uniform. Black “golf” shorts (with pockets and belt loops), all white sneakers, no-show white socks, band jersey, black ball cap.

 

Traditional Uniform - white and green uniform worn to football games once it’s not too hot.

 

Vibes - recommended ear plug brand (mandatory for battery percussion)

 

Winter Guard - a spring competitive activity for our Color Guard students, competing in NTCA and WGI events.
